It came to a rude shock when organisers of the MTV EMA that held in Bilboa, Spain announced Tiwa Savage as the winner of the Best African Act category.
For so many reasons, Davido led in foreign explorations this year. He was everywhere in the World and was also doing fantastically good at home.
It was a contrast to what happened to Wizkid last year who disappeared on the home front while being busy with his Sounds From The Other Side Project last year.
It wasn’t until he dropped Manya last year that soothed the minds of people who claimed the SFTOS project wasn’t meant for them. But here, Davido was running it at home and abroad.
Assurance and Nwa Baby were hits and abroad, he was getting called up for different shows and concerts. After Wizkid had missed Coachella, concert organizers decided to go for a substitute in Davido.
He was at Wireless Festival, Jay Z’s Made In America and J Cole’s Dreamville festival. He was also on Quavo‘s album and won the BET Worldwide Act even ahead of Tiwa Savage.
This was in contrast to Tiwa Savage who slightly got more votes than Davido due to the Fever Controversy.
Tiwa Savage did exceptionally well and had a few hits this year. Diet was sweeter with Tiwa Savage’s sultry voice, Tiwa’s Vibe was also a hit coupled with her Lova Lova Collaboration with Duncan Mighty.
She also shut down the 5,000 capacity O2 indigo few months ago and had several concerts abroad.
